Coquille City Council Meeting • April 7, 2025
Documents from City of Coquille handed out at meeting:
“Tonight, we had a packed house at city council! Three people got up to talk, we had great feedback. It was exciting to see the turnout and participation.”
Key Topics Discussed:
City Budget Crisis:
The mayor acknowledged the city is navigating a budget crisis and directed attendees to informational packets on the situation, including details about the Coquille Ambulance Fire and Rescue.
Councilors encouraged public participation and input to help address the budget challenges.
Request to Lease City Property:
A business owner requested to lease and expand the use of a city-owned parking lot adjacent to their property.
After discussion, the council approved a motion to allow the existing lease/easement area to be expanded slightly to accommodate improvements, but rejected the larger expansion request.
The council wanted the city to maintain control over the majority of the parking lot for public use.
Council Goals for FY 2025-2026:
The council reviewed and approved their priority goals for the upcoming fiscal year.
Budget Committee Appointments:
The council appointed two new members to the city's budget committee.
Vacation of Jefferson School Park:
The council approved vacating a portion of the existing Jefferson School Park to allow for a subdivision development, while reconfiguring the remaining park area.
"Adopt a Park" Program:
The council reviewed a proposal for a new "Adopt a Park" volunteer program to help maintain and improve city parks.
The program was generally supported, with some details still to be worked out.
URA Grant:
The council approved a resolution to receive a $60,000 grant into the Urban Renewal Agency (URA) budget.
The grant funds will be used for redevelopment projects.
